The Mill welcomes back Des Keogh for another run of this great show.
This production follows the world wide success of Keogh's earlier John B Keane adaptation, The Love Hungry Farmer, which had two runs in New York, a sell-out Irish tour and earned him a Best Actor Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004. Confessions of an Irish Publican brings to life the colourful, eccentric characters of John B Keane's experience as a writer and Kerry publican. We meet characters from the local village, including the parish priest, a cursing closet drinker, Mother Superior of the convent, his friend Plather (who's slept with a mermaid), and a headstrong Dublin lawyer.
The play conveys an entire village-scape in the rich, earthy language of the great Irish playwright and humorist. Des Keogh has enjoyed huge success as an actor, particularly for his projects on John B Keane. His award winning show, The Love-Hungry Farmer followed his success in Keane's The Matchmaker, in which he starred opposite the late, great Anna Manahan. Des is also known as one half of Des and Rosie, his comedy act with Rosaleen Linehan, with whom he has been appearing since 1975. Des is also a well-loved radio presenter who presented Music for Middlebrows on RTE Radio 1 for over 31 years.
